The Forum For African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA) has launched its strategic plan and Mastercard foundation bursary program, where it will provide school bursaries to 1, 550 young boys and girls.
The program will focus on providing bursaries for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) courses under the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training (TEVET) institutions and universities.
Speaking during the launch, Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, says the bursary program will address barriers that hinder young people especially in rural and under-served areas, from pursuing higher education and access to dignified employment and entrepreneurial activities.
“It is even more pleasing to note that this bursary program will ensure that 15% of its participants are people with disabilities or refugees,” said Mr. Syakalima.
He said that it is through such initiatives that the nation can build a brighter and more equitable future for the young people through education.
