FAWEZA CALLS FOR EMPOWERMENT OF GIRL CHILDREN

Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA) says it is crucial that stakeholders amplify the voices of young girls and provide them with the opportunities they need to thrive and achieve their dreams.

This is in a message to mark the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child under the theme “Girls’ Vision for the Future.”

FAWEZA Executive Director, Costern Kanchele, says stakeholders, government, civil society and the private sector, should work together to create safe spaces where girls can express their ideas and shape their future.

“This year’s theme highlights the importance of listening to girls and involving them in decision-making processes that affect their lives,” said Mr. Kanchele in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said  FAWEZA believes that every girl holds the power to shape her future and contribute meaningfully to society.

Mr. Kanchele however said the girl child’s power cannot be realized if girls continue to face barriers such as limited access to quality education, early marriages, and gender-based violence.

He further re-affirm FAWEZA’s commitment to removing the obstacles by promoting gender-responsive education, ensuring safe learning environments, and supporting policies that advance girls’ rights and opportunities.
