ERB APPROVES 89 LICENCE APPLICATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION PERMITS

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 89 licence applications and 8 construction permits in the petroleum and renewable energy sub-sectors, representing a total investment of K10.9 billion .

ERB Public Relations Manager, Namukolo Kasumpa, says  the construction permits within the renewable energy sub-sector account for US$189 million.

She highlighted key projects, including a 50-megawatt Solar PV Power Plant at Baluba Maposa in Luanshya District, a 50-megawatt Solar PV Power Plant integrated with a 20-megawatt-per-hour battery energy storage system by Cooma Solar Power Plant Limited, and a 330kV transmission line from Lusaka West Substation to Kabwe Stepdown Substation by ZESCO Limited.

“These power generation projects are crucial in supporting Zambia’s policy objective of diversifying its energy mix and addressing current energy challenges,” said Ms. Kasumpa.

She further emphasized that these developments not only enhance energy security and diversity but also attract substantial investment, drive economic growth, and create employment opportunities.
