The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 62 license applications and 8 construction permits across the petroleum, electricity, and renewable energy sub-sectors, representing a total investment pledge of K11 billion.
ERB Manager- Public Relations, Namukolo Kasumpa, said the approved licenses span a range of energy-related activities, including the manufacture, supply, installation, and maintenance of renewable energy generating equipment.
“The other licenses cover road transportation of petroleum products, distribution, import, and export of petroleum products; blending, packaging, and export of lubricants; and the distribution and supply of electricity,” said Mrs. Kasumpa in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
She added that three major construction permits were granted in the electricity and renewable energy sector.
Mrs. Kasumpa said that these include the Kalumbila-Kolwezi Interconnector Project (KKIP), a 100 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant by Sun Share Energy Limited in Chief Moono’s area of Mumbwa District and an off-grid solar PV power plant with 20 megawatt-hours battery storage at Ruida Mine in Kasempa District, of North-Western Province.
She said that in addition, 114 road tank vehicles were licensed to enhance petroleum product transportation, while 4 newly built service stations were authorized to begin operations.
Mrs. Kasumpa said the approvals are key to improving energy access, safety, and service delivery across the country.
