ERB ACTS ON ENERGY COMPANIES BREACHING LICENSE CONDITIONS

The Energy Regulation Board, ERB, has taken enforcement actions against four Energy Companies for Breaching license conditions.

ERB Public Relations Manager Namukolo Kasumpa says the actions follow comprehensive compliance audits and regulatory oversight aimed at ensuring adherence to the mandated operational standards as prescribed by the Energy Regulation Act No. 12 of 2019.

Mrs. Kasumpa said that Mount Meru Petroleum has being fine K45, 000 for failing to submit a comprehensive fire incident report and Uno Energies Zambia has also been fined a K45, 000 for contravening ERB’s sitting guidance for petroleum infrastructure.

“Eco Petroleum has been reprimanded for failing to provide a functional compressed air system at its service station, while Lake Petroleum has also been reprimanded and required to address all compliance issues promptly to meet stipulated regulatory standards following the breach of license conditions,” said Mrs. Kasumpa in a statement issue to RCV News in Lusaka today.

She has since urged all energy companies to regularly review their compliance status and take remedial actions saying that the board will not hesitate to instate enforcement action against any erring licensees.

Mrs. Kasumpa said that ERB will continue to monitor and enforce compliance to promote an efficient and transparent energy sector that protects consumers.
