ERB ACTS AGAINST 7 COMPANIES, RECOVERS OUTSTANDING LIABILITIES

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has taken enforcement action against seven companies for breach of license conditions and non-payment of outstanding liabilities.

The actions follow comprehensive compliance audits and regulatory oversight aimed at ensuring adherence to the mandated operational standards as prescribed by the Energy Regulation Act.

In a statement to RCV News in Lusaka today, ERB Public Relations Manager, Namukolo Kasumpa said a total of K387, 448.65 was recovered from Dana Oil Corporation Limited, Star Oil Corporation Limited, LBM Transport Limited, Amico Investment Limited and Elect Power Technologies Limited for outstanding License Fees, Strategic Reserve Fund and Fuel Marking Fees.

“Following legal proceedings against Exxon Petroleum Limited in the High Court for Zambia, the Court ruled in favour of the ERB, granting a default judgment due to Exxon Petroleum Limited’s failure to appear or file a defence,” said Mrs. Kasumpa.

Mrs. Kasumpa said Exxon Petroleum Limited has since fully settled the outstanding amount of K620,444.17.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Kasumpa said Puma Energy Zambia Limited was reprimanded for failure to exhibit a well-documented complaint handling procedure at its Dedan Kimathi Service Station.

She said the enforcement actions highlight the ERB’s resolve to ensure that all licensed entities comply with their licence conditions and operate within the framework of the Energy Regulation Act.

Mrs. Kasumpa has further urged all energy companies to regularly review their compliance status and take necessary remedial actions.
