Energy expert Leonard Sepe says ZESCO’s current power imports and exports are as a result of longstanding contractual obligations within the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP).
Mr. Sepe explained that while government announced that ZESCO is importing 238 megawatts of power and exporting 106 megawatts, these arrangements are not new.
“These power trading agreements have existed for many years as part of contracts signed between regional power utilities,” said Mr. Sepe.
His comments come amid public scrutiny over the rationale for importing electricity during periods of domestic load shedding, while simultaneously exporting energy.
But Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Sepe commended government’s recent interventions to stabilize the national grid, describing them as “crucial steps toward resolving the ongoing energy crisis.”
