ELECTED LEADERS NEED TO STEP UP – AVAP

The Anti Voter Apathy Project has attributed the ongoing low voter turn out in Ward By Elections across the country, to failure of elected leaders to address challenges affecting the community.

AVAP Executive Director, Richwell Mulwani, says a study shows that people on the ground are not happy with leaders they elect who he says, have failed to address challenges affecting people at ward level.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Mulwani said that people want elected leaders to change their livelihoods by addressing simple challenges at the community level such as limited access to basic services and economic hardships.

“The onus is now on the elected leaders to be on ground and offer solutions to the challenges people are faced with,” said Mr. Mulwani.

He has predicted that low voter turn out will continue till 2026 so long leaders are not in touch with people’s needs on the ground.
