EFZ CALLS FOR INCREASED CHURCH SUPPORT  ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Executive Director, Andrew Mwenda, has emphasized the need for the church to strengthen its ability to address mental health concerns.

Bishop Mwenda explains that doing so will encourage more congregants to seek counselling when facing mental health challenges.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Bishop Mwenda noted that, currently, the church is ill-equipped to handle the mental health needs of its members, contributing to the rising number of cases in the country.

“Often, individuals with mental health issues are treated as if they are demon-possessed and in need of prayer,” said Bishop Mwenda.

Bishop Mwenda has since urged the church to establish additional counselling offices, where pastors and elders can provide support and help reduce the prevalence of mental health issues.
