EFF SAYS 2023 FIC REPORT EXPOSING CORRUPTION IN UPND GOVT

Opposition Economic Freedom Fighters EFF President, Kasonde Mwenda, has described President Hakainde Hichilema’s reaction to the recently released trends report by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) as hypocritical.

Yesterday, President Hichilema through a statement urged law enforcement agencies to investigate the suspicious transactions  amounting to K13.58 Billon recorded in the 2023 FIC report.

Mr. Mwenda however said that the report is an indication of the rampant corruption in the UPND government.

“It is appalling that the President merely wishes for the K13.58 billion FIC corruption under his administration to be investigated, especially when similar issues were reported in 2022 with little to no action from the Law Enforcement Agencies,” said Mr. Mwenda in a statemenet issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said of concern in  the 2023 FIC report are companies with questionable backgrounds receiving substantial government contracts.

Mr. Mwenda said that Zambians want answers to the illicit financial transactions recorded in the report, urging law enforcement agencies to thoroughly  investigate the cases.
