EFF CONDEMNS SUSPENSION OF 3 CONSTITUTIONAL COURT JUDGES

Opposition Economic Freedom Fighters President, Kasonde Mwenda, has called for the immediate reinstatement of the suspended constitutional  court judges by president Hakainde Hichilema.

Yesterday, the Head of state suspended 3 constitutional court judges following recommendations presented to him by the Judicial Complaints Commission.

But Mr. Mwenda has argued that the suspension of the judges that include, Justice Annie Sitali, Justice Mungeni Mulenga and Justice Palan Mulonda is an act of political manipulation aimed at protecting President Hichilema’s political interests ahead of the 2026 elections.

“Also the  decision, coming on the eve of a landmark trial on the recently reopened eligibility case of former President Edgar Lungu to contest the 2026 general elections, raises serious concerns about the independence of Zambia’s judiciary and the rule of law,” said Mr. Mwenda in  a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said that the suspension of the judges, who were about to deliver a ruling on the former presidents eligibility case, undermines the public’s trust in the judiciary.

Mr. Mwenda has therefore called upon all Zambians, civil society organizations, and international partners to speak out on what he termed, the unfair suspension of the constitutional court judges by the president.
