The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set Thursday, 19th September, 2024 as the date on which to hold the Council Chairperson by-election in Kawambwa District of Luapula Province and three ward by-elections in Lukanga Ward of Kabwe in Central Province, Kabalenga Ward in Mwansabombwe District of Luapula Province and Chidi Ward of Zimba District in Southern Province.
The nominations for the said by-election will be conducted on Tuesday, 20th August, 2024.
“Campaign period commences on Wednesday, 21st August, 2024 and will end at 18:00 hours on Wednesday, 18th August, 2024,” ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager, Patricia Luhanga, has said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Ms. Luhanga said the by-election in Kawambwa has arisen due to the conviction by the Courts of Law of the Kawambwa District Council Chairperson, Kalumba Chifumbe, of the Patriotic Front on 22nd July, 2024.
And Ms. Luhanga said the vacancies in the three wards are due to a conviction, resignation and death respectively.
“Aspiring candidates in the by-elections should lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers on Tuesday, 20th August, 2024 between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours,” said Ms. Luhanga.
