ECL REPATRIATION  CASE ADJOURNED TO MONDAY

The case in which the family of late former President Edgar Lungu has applied for leave to appeal the court’s judgment on the repatriation of his body has been adjourned to Monday, August 18, 2025, at 10:00 hours.

The adjournment follows a request by the Lungu family’s lawyer, Senior Counsel Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, who asked the court to stand down the matter as discussions between the family and government to resolve the issue outside court are still ongoing.

“The parties are in talks on how to resolve the matter and If the discussions succeed, the court will be informed, but we need more time than today,” said the family lawyer.

He added that his team and the and lawyers representing government had agreed to request that the matter be stood down to Monday, the 18th, at 10 o’clock.

Both legal teams agreed to the stand down hinted at the possibility of progress in negotiation between governmnet and the family.

The matter arises from last Friday’s judgment ordering that the late president’s remains be returned to Zambia for a state funeral and burial at Embassy Park.
