DRIVING SCHOOL DIRECTOR URGES BETTER RTSA TEST CENTRE SIGNAGE

The Director of the Zambian School of Driving, Hope Kumalo, has called on government to enhance road signage around the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) testing centre located along Great East Road in Lusaka.

Her appeal follows a tragic accident outside the RTSA Silverest Office, where a young driver and four passengers lost their lives, describing the incident as a reminder of the need for immediate action to prevent further loss of life.

In a statement to RCV News in Lusaka today, Ms. Kumalo emphasized the urgent need for clear and visible road signage indicating the presence of the testing centre.

“This area needs to be properly marked to alert motorists, especially those unfamiliar with the location,” said Ms. Kumalo.

Ms. Kumalo has also urged authorities to act proactively by installing proper signage and speed controls to enhance safety for everyone using that route.

She further recommended reducing speed limits near the center, particularly for heavy vehicles traveling from the Eastern Province.

Ms. Kumalo also pointed out the sharp bend near the testing center, which poses a danger to drivers who fail to reduce speed, stating that drivers approaching Lusaka often increase speed, sometimes to beat personal driving records, raising the risk of serious accidents.
