Government has expressed concern over reports of couples separating after receiving funds under the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) program.
Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Bernard Mpundu, said the social protection interventions introduced by government, are not meant to disrupt family units but are aimed at alleviating hunger and improving livelihoods across the country.
Mr. Mpundu urged beneficiaries to use the financial support responsibly, emphasizing that the assistance should strengthen households rather than contribute to instability or conflict.
“These interventions are designed to uplift communities and reduce poverty, not to break families apart” said Mr. Mpundu in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, by Northern Province Principal Public Relations Officer, Sandra Mulenga.
And Mr. Mpundu clarified that the conclusion of the emergency social cash transfer, introduced as a drought relief measure, does not mark the end of the broader social protection initiative.
Mr. Mpundu made these remarks during meetings with SCT beneficiaries in Kaputa, Nsama, Mporokoso, and Lunte Districts where 0ver 140,000 people in Northern Province are currently benefiting from the program.
