DISABILITY MOVEMENT CALLS FOR SENSITIZATION ON DISABILITY POLICY

Zambia Union for Persons Living with Disabilities (ZUPLD) President, Pascal Mulenga, has called for widespread sensitization on the newly approved National Policy for Persons Living with Disabilities to ensure that all affected individuals are aware of its provisions.

Cabinet recently approved the National Policy, aimed at enhancing the welfare and inclusiveness of persons living with disabilities across the country.

But Mr. Mulenga expressed hope that the policy will foster equality, inclusiveness, and improved opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News, Mr. Mulenga emphasized the importance of ensuring that the policy promotes equal opportunities for both persons with disabilities and able-bodied individuals.

He noted that in the past, persons with disabilities were often marginalized, particularly in employment and leadership positions.

“The implementation of this policy should extend to all sectors, especially educational institutions, where there has been inadequate access to essential resources such as braille materials for the visually impaired,” said Mr. Mulenga.

He further commended the government for approving the policy, stating that its effective implementation will help bridge the gap of segregation that has long existed between able-bodied and disabled persons.
