DECLINE IN EDUCATION STANDARDS BAD FOR GRADUATES-NAQEZ

National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) says the continued decline in Zambia’s education standards has potential to render Zambian school leavers inadmissible to foreign universities.

The recent UNICEF report highlights the high decline in the quality of education in Zambia, indicating that nine out of ten primary school students in the region struggle to read and understand simple texts.

And NAQEZ Executive Director, Aaron Chansa, says such revelations are bad for Zambian school leavers as well as university graduates who may need employment.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Dr. Chansa said the revelations are also bad for Zambia’s image abroad.

“The quality of graduates has been declining, industries are complaining,” said Dr. Chansa.

Dr. Chansa called for quality assurance from stakeholders and also called for proper implementation of the new curriculum to change the narrative.
