DECLARE THE ELECTRICITY CRISES A NATIONAL EMERGENCY – KATEKA

The New Heritage Party  has urged government to declare the current electricity crises  a National emergency.

Party President, Chishala Kateka, says declaring the current situation as a national disaster, will enable the country unlock and mobilise financial, material logistical and human resources for dealing expeditiously with the electricity crisis.

Ms. Kateka says electricity is not only a key mover of the nation’s economy but also a national social service to households, public health and other institutions such as schools, hospitals, security installations and police stations.

“The Zambian Constitution and subsidiary laws provide several provisions that the government can invoke to mitigate a national disaster or emergency situation such as the one the country is going through,” said Ms. Kateka in a statement.
