DEAF SOCIETY CALLS FOR INTERPRETATION OF CDF GUIDELINES

The Zambia Deaf Society says most deaf people in Zambia have been left out of the empowerment programs being given by government because they do not understand the procedures and the set guidelines to access them.

Society President, Moses Soko, says the deaf want to benefit from the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission  (CEEC) and Constituency Development Fund (CDF) loans and grants but that the set guidelines are hard to understand.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Soko suggested the interpretation of CDF guidelines into sign language for the deaf community to understand what is required of them to benefit.

Mr. Soko further observed that the English used in the guidelines is not deaf friendly.

He however acknowledged that government has good empowerment programs but appealed for simplification of the set guidelines for all to benefit.

He was speaking through a sign language interpreter.
