The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) says it is not impressed with interventions and polices government is implementing to reduce poverty levels in Zambia that stand at 60%.
CSPR Social Security and Justice Program Coordinator, Jane Siwale, said this in Lusaka today, when she featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback program on the topic, “assessing Zambia’s poverty levels”.
Mrs. Siwale said that statistics have shown that poverty levels have continued to increase, including in urban set ups of the Copperbelt and Lusaka provinces.
“The Constituency Development Fund CDF and social cash transfer alone is not enough to alleviate poverty levels in Zambia,” said Mrs Siwale.
She has therefore challenged government to increase the income of public service workers to improve their buying power in a difficult economy.
