The Network on Ending Child Marriages in Zambia (NECMZ) and the Zambia Interfaith Networking Group (ZINGO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance efforts on ending child marriages in the country.
Speaking during a media engagement in Lusaka today, NECMZ Chairperson, Womba Wanki, said the MoU is monumental and brings hope to the Zambian children in dealing with the crisis of child marriages.
She said the collaboration will bring concerted efforts to leverage on expertise and resources that will create a critical mass in vulnerable communities where the vice is highly practiced.
“As we reflect on these realities, we are reminded that no single organization or community can tackle this issue alone,” said Ms. Wanki.
Ms. Wanki said the partnership represents hope, unity and an unwavering commitment that will contribute to ending child marriages in Zambia.
Meanwhile, Zingo Executive Director, Silvers Hamukoma, said the MoU reflects shared beliefs that every child regardless of their background in Zambia deserves to live free from illegal marriages and associated risks.
Mr. Hamukoma commended government through the gender division and other cooperating partners on their support and pursuit to have a Zambia free of child marriages.
He said that the partnership will create a platform that will concretize actions and sustained efforts in engaging communities and advocating for policies that empower and protect girls rights.
