The Commuter Rights Association of Zambia (CRAZ) has called on the public to remain calm as the association engages in a consultative meeting with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) and bus operators to determine the possibility and extent of a reduction in bus fares following a recent drop in fuel prices.
On Saturday, May 31, 2025 the Energy Regulation Board’s (ERB)announced a reduction in fuel pump prices with Petrol dropping from K32.14 to K31.36 while Diesel dropped from K27.38 to 25.12 respectively
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, CRAZ President Aaron Kamuti urged commuters to be patient, as the Association waits for a consultative meeting with RTSA and other stakeholders to review the implications of the latest pump price adjustment.
“We understand the expectation from the public for fares to be adjusted downwards following ERB’s announcement,” said Mr. Kamuti.
He however, said fare changes must go through proper consultations with all stakeholders, particularly RTSA, to ensure they are fair and sustainable for both commuters and transport operators.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kamuti has called on the ERB to consider instituting quarterly pronouncements on fuel prices, noting that frequent and unpredictable adjustments make it difficult for the association and other transport stakeholders to make informed decisions.
