CRAZ CALLS FOR TOUGHER MEASURES ON TRAFFIC OFFENDERS

The Commuters Rights Association of Zambia (CRAZ) has called for the construction of a police post near Great East Road to help address the rising number of fatal road accidents involving both motorists and pedestrians.

CRAZ President, Aaron Kamuti, says there is an urgent need for stronger and more effective interventions to reduce the frequency of road traffic accidents across the country.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Kamuti noted with concern that some motorists continue to show blatant disregard for pedestrians, with people being hit even while using designated pedestrian crossings.

He observed that many road accidents involving pedestrians along major highway routes in Lusaka go unreported, posing a daily threat to public safety.

“All stakeholders, especially the Lusaka Traffic Police Department, should reinforce deterrent measures for traffic rule violators to ensure the safety of all road users,” said Mr. Kamuti.

He further emphasized the need to deploy regular patrols along the Great East Road footway, noting that many pedestrians avoid using the designated walkway due to fear of being attacked by thugs who have taken over the flyover bridge.
