CONSTRUCTION OF MATERNITY ANNEX IN MAMBWE PROGRESSING WELL

Mambwe Town Council Public Relations Officer Grace Lungu says the construction works of a maternity annex at Nyakatokoli rural health center in Mambwe district are progressing well.

“55% of the works have already been done,” says Ms. Lungu in a statement to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Ms. Lungu says the 8 capacity bed facility is a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) funded project, under the 2023 allocation, totaling to Contract sum of K996,226.01.

She said works that have so far been done include the construction of both the  substructure and superstructure.

“Remaining works include among others roofing, plastering, plumbing, electrical installations and finishes,” said Ms. Lungu.

She said Nyakatokoli rural health center  has no  maternity annex but currently making use of a  3 bed capacity  as a makeshift maternity ward.

“Expecting mothers in the area are optimistic that the completion of the project will address the many challenges that women face when giving birth at the health center,” said Ms. Lungu.

She said the local authority is hopeful that the project will supplement efforts by the Ministry of Health in providing a conducive environment for women to deliver their babies in a more appropriate environment.

“The project will also supplement efforts by the Ministry in  ensuring that no mother dies while giving birth,” said Ms. Lungu.
