CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS SHOULD BE WITHDRAWN – EFZ

Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Executive Director, Andrew Mwenda, has maintained that the church mother body is not in support of the ongoing constitutional amendment process.

Bishop Mwenda expressed concern that EFZ and other key stakeholders continue to be sidelined in the process, despite raising valid concerns on behalf of the people.

Speaking on Radio Christian Voice’s Chatback program on the topic “The Role of the Church in Governance,” in Lusaka today, Bishop Mwenda acknowledged that while some proposed amendments may be progressive, government should prioritize addressing the country’s pressing economic challenges.

“There is no constitutional crisis in Zambia that warrants urgent amendments before the 2026 general elections and EFZ believes that urgent attention should be directed towards the healthcare crisis in hospitals and the high cost of living,” said Bishop Mwenda.

He further emphasized that the church is not against constitutional reforms in principle, but insists that such processes must be inclusive, consultative, and undertaken at an appropriate time when the country’s more urgent socio-economic issues have been addressed.
