CLERGY WORRIED OVER COURT INVOLVEMENT IN ECL BURIAL

United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Lusaka Presbytery Bishop, Rev. Lodwell Siame, has expressed concern over government’s decision to involve the courts in resolving the burial impasse of former President Edgar Lungu.

Rev. Siame said turning to the judiciary suggests that all avenues for an amicable resolution have failed, a move that could set a negative precedent.

He made the remarks when he featured on Radio Christian Voice’s Chatback program during a discussion on the topic “National Dialogue.”

“At this point, not even the church can mediate anymore all the church will do is pray for both parties,” said Rev. Siame.

He, however, maintained that the situation should never have escalated to this level, stressing that the church should have been allowed to intervene much earlier to mediate the matter.
