CLERGY  URGES RESPECTFUL, LAWFUL FAREWELL FOR FORMER PRESIDENT LUNGU

A Clergyman has called on the Patriotic Front (PF) and the family of the late former President Edgar Lungu to prioritize dignity, unity, and respect in line with national law and Christian values as the nation mourns its former Head of State.

In a statement issued to RCV News today, Bishop Victor Kalesha of Citygate Christian Center Zambia urged all stakeholders to respect the laws governing the treatment of former Presidents, which stipulate that they be given a State funeral and laid to rest at the Presidential burial grounds.

“The law guides us on how to treat former Heads of State, and it’s essential we adhere to it.,” said Bishop Kalesha.

Bishop Kalesha said Zambia, being a Christian nation, should respond with love, forgiveness, and unity during this time of mourning and further cautioned against letting emotions overshadow the importance of healing and national cohesion.

He has also urged PF Senior officials,  specifically, Given Lubinda and Makebi Zulu, to show wise leadership and guide the former First Family accordingly.

Bishop Kalesha has called on the state to officially oversee the funeral proceedings, stressing that this will not only uphold the law but also reflect Zambia’s reputation as a peaceful and respectful nation.

He has further encouraged senior clergy and community leaders to guide the process with biblical wisdom and help foster unity in the wake of President Lungu’s passing.
