CIVIC LEADER URGES LCC TO PAY 2024 CASH-FOR WORK BENEFICIARIES

Kalingalinga Ward 36 Councilor Mukubesa Nyoni has appealed to the Lusaka City Council (LCC) to clear up the pending wages for those who participated in the 2024 Cash-for-Work program.

Mr. Nyoni says the delay in paying the workers has affected the effectiveness of the program in the area.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Nyoni said that the program will not expand if the council delays renumerating individuals that have done the work.

“The workers were only paid for two months, including August and September 2024 when the program was initiated, leaving November and December despite them conducting the work,” said Mr. Nyoni.

He emphasized that the Cash-for-Work program is a rolling initiative that benefits vulnerable households across the country and that there is need for government through the Local Authority to ensure beneficiaries are paid on time.

And LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba has told RCV News in an interview that the program is still running in all the communities despite the delay in payments.

She said the Council is working on ensuring the outstanding wages are cleared to ensure the implementation of the program continues effectively.
