CHILDREN DEMAND QUALITY AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

About 80 children from all ten provinces in Zambia have participated in a National Children’s Parliament focused on education and have urged those in power to address barriers to education, particularly for disadvantaged children.

This is in commemoration of World Children’s Day (WCD) which falls on November 20th.

16 year-old Aaron Makina, Member of the Children’s Parliament, Central Province, urged authorities to include children in making decisions that affect children.

He said there is need to outline priorities to ensure every child can enjoy their right to education.

And UNICEF Zambia Representative Penelope Campbell, expressed happiness that children from across the country came together to discuss education and express their views on what needs to be done to ensure they have a bright future.

“Their demands are clear, from more efforts to ensure quality foundational learning for every child, to the creation of safe learning environments, the provision of mental health and counselling, and digital learning,” said Dr. Campbel in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

She said  UNICEF is committed to accompany the children, Government and partners in a journey of joined efforts to make sure children in Zambia learn and enjoy a future full of opportunities.
