CHILD ABUSE IMPACTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE-NAQEZ

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has called for an end to child abuse both at home and in schools, highlighting the negative impact it has on children’s mental health.

NAQEZ Executive Director, Aaron Chansa emphasized that when a child experiences any form of abuse, it disrupts their focus in school, as they become psychologically unstable and traumatized, among other detrimental effects.

In an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Dr. Chansa stressed the importance of protecting children from all forms of violence, whether at home or school, regardless of gender.

“Schools, in particular, should provide an environment where children feel safe, allowing them to focus academically and grow into responsible members of society,” said Dr. Chansa.

He also urged parents and guardians, especially during school holidays, to stop abusing children and instead support their academic progress by providing study materials to help improve their performance.

Dr. Chansa has further called on parents to show greater care and support for their children, contributing to the 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence and beyond.
