CHAZ BIO SAFETY LEVEL 3 LABORATORY LAUNCHED IN CHONGWE

Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, has commissioned the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) bio-safety level 3 containment laboratory at the CHAZ complex in Chongwe, valued at US$520,000.

This facility marks a significant milestone in the ongoing fight against infectious diseases and is poised to safeguard the health of all Zambians.

Speaking during the launch today, Dr Muchima said Zambia urgently needs advanced facilities that can operate at the highest standards of bio-safety, following recent challenges posed by global pandemics.

Dr. Muchima said he recognizes and appreciates the CHAZ’s contribution to Zambia’s health sector.

And Dr. Muchima urged the scientists, who will be working in this laboratory, to follow the bio-safety principles and practices associated with the laboratory.

Speaking during the same launch CHAZ Chief Executive Officer, Karen Sichinga says the laboratory will play a crucial role in enhancing the health security and research capabilities, through its ability to handle and process high risk samples such as Ebola and other pathogens.

Mrs. Sichinga commended government through the minister of health for providing an enabling environment for CHAZ to operate freely in the health space.
