The African regional campaign, advocating for the recognition of the International Men’s Day, has gained momentum with five more countries joining the call, bringing the total number of countries to 13.
The five countries that have joined are Sierra Leone, Nigeria, South Sudan, Seychelles and Uganda, while those that Joined last year are Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Mali and Zambia.
Men’s Network for Gender and Development says consultations to have more countries to join the campaign to recognize the International Men’s Day which falls on 19 November are still going on.
“The objectives of the International Men’s Day among others is to promote gender equality and the well-being of men and boys as well as promoting male role models who are living an honest life and working to promote gender equality,” said Organisation National Coordinator, Nelson Banda in a statement to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He said The Call to Action Statement will be presented to the African Union and that the 13 countries will also lobby their government to recognize the day as an important day for men.
“In additional a pan-African Men’s Learning and Exchange Conference led by Community Life Project (CLP),Nigeria in partnership with Men’s Network for Gender and Development will host an online men’s conference during the 16 Days of Activism where organisations working on positive masculinity in Africa will come together to share best practices,” said Mr. Mwale.
