Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Governor, Denny Kalyalya, has urged businesses operating in Zambia to hold themselves accountable for the impact of their operations on the environment, amid climate change.
Dr. Kalyalya says businesses should always seek to uplift the society they operate in and promote sustainable development by being responsible for the environment.
He said this in Mumbwa today, when he flagged off the planting of 1,500 indigenous trees as part the (BoZ) commemoration of its 60years of existence.
“Good corporate citizenship calls for a conscious alignment of business operations with social, environmental and economical to the benefit of both the business and the society,” said Dr. Kalyalya
He said trees play an important role in human life, and that they must be preserved at all times.
Dr. Kalyala said Corporate Social Responsibility requires businesses to raise social consciousness in the areas they operate in.
He also encouraged individuals and businesses to develop a culture of planting trees to counter the impact of climate change
Speaking during the same event, National Heritage Conservation Commision Board Member, Mulyokela Kalaluka, commended BoZ for deciding to plant trees at Mumbwa National Heritage site.
He said the nation should take climate change seriously and work together to combat it.
Mr. Kalaluka said failure to counter climate change at this point will be failing the future generation.
