Opposition Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) President, Kelvin Fube Bwalya, has called on government to embark on a large-scale installation of solar panels along the country’s major highways, as a sustainable solution to the ongoing energy crisis.
Mr. Bwalya said that this will be one long term sustainable way of addressing the current energy crisis.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Bwalya emphasized that harnessing solar energy along key transport routes particularly from Kapiri Mposhi to Nakonde, would add significant value to Zambia’s energy mix.
“This initiative will not only boost power supply but also ensure that motorists take ownership as custodians of the solar infrastructure along the highways,” said Mr. Bwalya.
He however cautioned that leaving the burden of implementing such a program solely on individuals would not be sustainable due to the high costs of solar equipment.
