BONGOHIVE LAUNCHES AI LAB

BongoHive, Zambia’s leading technology and innovation hub, has officially launched its AI Lab, a dedicated research and development centre aimed at advancing artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in the country.

The AI Lab will serve as a hub for AI research, development, and industry collaboration, enabling businesses, policymakers, and communities to leverage AI for economic growth and social impact.

In a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, BongoHive’s Marketing and Communications Lead, Tilyanji Mwanza, stated that the AI Lab was launched in response to the growing demand for AI expertise and solutions in Zambia.

According to a recent survey conducted by BongoHive, in collaboration with the Zambia ICT Authority and the Ubuntu AI Community, there is a significant gap between the potential of AI and its current adoption in Zambia.

Mr. Mwanza noted that this gap presents a major opportunity for the country to harness AI for economic growth and social development.

“The lab will focus on developing AI applications in key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, finance, and education, with the goal of driving innovation and creating economic opportunities,” said Mr. Mwanza.

He also highlighted that the global AI market is projected to reach $1.5 trillion by 2025, with Africa expected to play a significant role in this growth.

He stressed that by investing in AI research and development, Zambia can position itself to benefit from this booming market and create high-skilled jobs for its citizens.
