AVAP DISAPPOINTED WITH POLITICAL VIOLENCE IN LUMEZI

Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) Executive Director, Richwell Mulwani, has expressed disappointment with the political violence that erupted in Lumezi Constituency yesterday, as six candidates filed in their parliamentary nominations.

Mr. Mulwani described the incident as a setback to the electoral process, a violation of human rights, and a threat to Zambia’s democratic principles.

He urged political parties to uphold peace and refrain from acts of violence.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Mulwani warned that failure to address such incidents could lead to increased voter apathy in the 2026 general elections, as citizens may fear participating in the electoral process.

“This is what happened during the Patriotic Front regime and the current government must act swiftly to stop such acts,” said Mr. Mulwani.

Mr. Mulwani also called on the Zambia Police Service to take decisive action by arresting those responsible, questioning why political violence continues to recur when the country should be fostering peace and unity.
