The Forestry Institute of Zambia FIZ has called on government to conduct an audit on the number of foresters working in firms, that have been given forest concession licenses in Zambia.
FIZ Member Chailya Katungula says this emanates from reports that firms are not employing qualified foresters, despite using their certificates to acquire forest concession licenses.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Katungula said that most firms with forest concession licenses are conducting their business without the inclusion of foresters.
“The luck of a forester on the ground is detrimental, as there is no expert to advise on how best to protect the environment during the cultivation of wood species,” said Mr. Katungula.
