The Association of Women in Mining has welcomed the government’s decision to remove the export tax on precious minerals, calling it a testament to their commitment to fostering a thriving mining sector at the heart of the national economy.
Association President, Namakau Kaingu, noted that the export tax, introduced in the 2025 budget, had worsened challenges for emerald miners, who were already struggling with low market prices.
“With the removal of the export tax, government will ease pressure on this segment of the mining industry because the sector already contributes through Mineral Royalty Taxes and Income Taxes,” Ms. Kaingu stated in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
She commended government for its collaborative approach with citizens, civil society, and investors in building a world-class mining industry.
Ms. Kaingu further highlighted efforts to revive disused mines, attract investment, and develop new projects as crucial steps toward a prosperous and sustainable mining sector.
