ASPIRING MATERO MP CRITICIZES  K500 SALARY INCREMENT

Aspiring Member of Parliament for Matero Constituency, Moffat Sinyangwe, has criticized the government’s recent decision to award a K500 salary increment for civil servants effective January 2025.

Mr. Sinyangwe says the amount is insufficient and is a poor example for other employers.

He said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, that civil servants deserve a fair wage adjustment that matches and reflects the rising cost of living.

“I stand with the hardworking civil servants of Zambia who deserve a fair and meaningful salary increment that reflects the rising cost of living,” said Mr. Sinyangwe.

He said an increase of at least 40% would have been a more suitable response, especially with the nation’s rising inflation rate.

Mr. Sinyangwe further argued that a more substantial increment would have demonstrated solidarity with civil servants, setting a standard that other employers in Zambia could follow.

He said a stronger commitment from the government in this regard would have sent a powerful message to other employers about the importance of supporting workers through challenging times.
