The Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has strongly condemned allegations of sexual harassment and bribery made by volunteer nurses in Livingstone, stating that such misconduct undermines the integrity of the healthcare system.
Last week, several volunteer nurses in Livingstone accused some of their superiors of demanding sexual Favors and bribes in exchange for recruitment into government positions.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, MQHZ Director General, Quince Mwabu, expressed concern over the impact of such allegations, noting that they create a hostile work environment and could hinder government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the country.
“Such allegations can significantly affect workers’ performance by fostering a toxic work environment,” said Dr. Mwabu.
He further emphasized the need for the Ministry to provide training on ethics and professionalism to promote transparency and accountability in recruitment and promotion processes.
Dr. Mwabu also called on the Ministry of Health to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and take decisive action against those found guilty.
