The Acton Institute for Policy Analysis Centre (AIPAC) has expressed sadness with the persistent allegations of corruption and misuse of public and donor funds at the Ministry of Health.
Last week, Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, was quoted by a local newspaper of his acknowledgment of corruption in his ministry.
Institute Executive Director, Solomon Ngoma, says the recent reports of alleged embezzlement of donors funds, is a stark reminder of the endemic corruption that plagues Zambia’s public sector.
Mr. Ngoma said that the allegations have led to a crisis of confidence among donors, with some already suspending aid.
“It is imperative that the government under takes decisive action to address these concerns and restore donor confidence,” said Mr. Ngoma in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He has therefore urged government to take immediate action to address the allegations of corruption at the Ministry of Health, including conducting a thorough investigation and holding those responsible accountable.
