The Poultry Association of Zambia (PAZ) has called on government to work on the modalities of the high cost of input facilitated by limited supply of maize and soya cake.
PAZ National Chairperson, Rene Lourens says while there has been growth in the poultry industry, it is important to mention the numerous challenges it has been facing.
Speaking at the PAZ Annual General Meeting in Lusaka with the theme “CREATING A RESILIENT POULTRY INDUSTRY AMIDST ECONOMIC CHALLENGES”, Mr Lourens said there is need for a robust approach in both agricultural and livestock investment.
And Fisheries and Livestock Director of Development, Bornwell Mupeyo said that government, in the short-term strategy will be importing 300,000 metric tonnes of yellow maize for the poultry sector as well as unlimited importation on Non – GMO maize for all species.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mupeyo added that government has engaged commercial farmers to grow both winter maize as well as early maize to ensure that the country has enough maize for human, animal and industrial use.
