AFZ BEMOANS ATTACKS ON PEOPLE WITH ALBINISM

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Albinism Foundation of Zambia (AFZ), John Chiti,  has urged the public to refrain from attacking people living with albinism, saying that anyone found wanting will be prosecuted by the law.

Mr. Chiti says the foundation has been working with stakeholders in Eastern, Northern, Luapula and Muchinga provinces were cases of attacks on people living with albinism are rampant.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Chiti said that the foundation has directly been supporting people with albinism in education and health by sponsoring education materials and sunscreen lotion.

“The association is also working with the judiciary and prosecutors to ensure that cases involving attacks on people with albinism are prosecuted and justice is served,” said Mr. Chiti.

He said the foundation recently held a training in Chipata with the Zambia police, lawyers, traditional healers, chiefs and other government institutions such as social welfare groups, to help reduce the attacks on people living with albinism.
