AFECN CALLS ON GOV’T TO PRIORITIZE EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

Africa Early Childhood Network (AFECN) has called on the government and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive National Integrated Multi-sectoral Early childhood development policy that aims to provide holistic support to young children and families ensuring they receive the best possible start in life.

Regional Coordinator for AFECN, Given Daka says government and stakeholders must prioritize early childhood development which can help create a supportive environment for young children and families, making a positive impact on Zambia’s future, driving economic growth, social development and improved health outcomes.

She said this at the Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN) Zambia media engagement breakfast meeting in Lusaka today.

Ms. Daka further added that this can be achieved by increasing investments by allocating more resources to support early childhood development programs, ensuring they are accessible and affordable for all.

“Strengthening regulatory frameworks by establishing and enforcing robust quality assurance systems to guarantee that early childhood services meet high standards,” said Ms. Daka.

Meanwhile, Early Childhood Development Action Network Chairperson, Doras Chirwa said that people need to invest in children as it brings out a good outcome, many Zambian children face challenges in accessing quality early childhood services which hinders their cognitive, social and emotional growth.
