AFDB ESTABLISHES PERMANENT OFFICE IN ZAMBIA

The African Development Bank (AFDB), has today laid a foundation stone for the Bank’s first permanent office in Zambia.

Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, says the ceremony marks a pivotal chapter in the over five-decade-long partnership between Zambia and the AFDB, which has supported the country’s development since establishing a presence in 1971.

In a statement issued to RCV News today, Dr. Musokotwane said the infrastructure milestone, reflects the Bank’s long-standing commitment to Zambia’s growth, with financial support amounting to approximately USD 2.7 billion to date.

“AFDB’s support has produced many positive results in sectors such as transport, agriculture, water and sanitation and energy” said Dr. Musokotwane

Dr. Musokotwane highlighted notable projects made possible by the Bank which includes the Kazungula Bridge, the Integrated Small Towns Water and Sanitation Project and the Lusaka Sanitation Programme among others.

He has since extended gratitude to the Bank for its unwavering commitment and support to Zambia and that he expects the Bank and government to continue on the positive cooperation path to strive for greater development for the Zambian people through the Permanent Office.
