The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has renewed calls for the government to urgently address overcrowding in schools, citing its negative impact on education quality.
NAQEZ Executive Director, Dr. Aaron Chansa, attributed the worsening situation to the introduction of the free education policy, which has led to classrooms accommodating over 100 pupils.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News, Dr. Chansa stressed the urgent need for the government to expand school infrastructure, warning that the current conditions are compromising the quality of education.
“Teachers are struggling to manage overcrowded classrooms and effectively administer academic assessments,” said Dr. Chansa.
Dr. Chansa has since urged the government to increase the education budget by 20% to expedite the construction of additional classrooms and improve learning conditions.
