Business Consultant, Mubamba Sichilongo, has advised the local business community to continue accepting old banknotes during transactions, despite the introduction of new currency.
His remarks follows the official launch of Zambia’s new banknotes by the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and National Planning yesterday.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Sichilongo emphasized the need for business owners to familiarize themselves with the transition process to ensure smooth transactions and avoid inconveniencing customers.
“Do not reject old banknotes, as they remain legal tender until further notice,” said Mr. Sichilongo.
He also underscored the importance of quickly learning the security and accessibility features of the new banknotes, which have been designed to enhance usability, especially for persons with disabilities.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sichilongo encouraged those still in possession of old banknotes to exchange them for the new ones as soon as possible to facilitate a seamless transition.
