GOV’T ATTRIBUTES HIGH COST OF LIVING TO DROUGHT

Chief Government Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, has dispelled allegations by some Zambians that the high cost of living is due to the non-progressive polices of the UPND government.

Mr. Mweetwa has however attributed the high cost of living to the drought and high fuel prices on the global market.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Mweetwa said that government is aware of the economic challenges Zambians are facing, adding that it is implementing polices that will address the negative impacts of the drought.

“Government is cognizant of the challenges Zambians are facing and it sympathizes with its people,” said Mr. Mweetwa.

And Mr. Mweetwa has called for more investments in key economic sectors of the country such as mining, as response to policy changes by the United States of America which has affected aid to African countries.

He said that the county needs to leverage and maximum its mineral resources by attaining more foreign direct investments in the mining sector.
