HEA TO DOWNGRADE SUPERSHINE UNIVERSITY TO UNIVERSITY-COLLEGE

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has officially notified Supershine University, a registered private higher education institution of its intent to regulate the universities status from University to University-College.

HEA Corporate Communications Officer, Birbal Musoba says the decision follows an inspection conducted on 14th February 2025 which revealed serious breaches of the Higher Education (amendment) Act, 2021.

In a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Musoba said Supershine University was found offering and enrolling students in learning programmes that have not been accredited by the Authority.

“In accordance with statutory provisions, Supershine University has been granted 30-day period to justify why it should not be relegated to university college status and cease from offering uncredited learning programs or risk facing regulatory actions and possible deregistration of the institution, said Mr. Musoba.

Mr. Musoba further added that the Authority is committed to ensuring quality in higher education and has urged members of the public to avoid enrolling in any private institution that is not registered with it.
