The Zambia Police Service has reported a 1.8% decrease in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases in 2024, with 42,178 cases recorded compared to 42,965 in 2023, a reduction of 787 cases.
Zambia Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, revealed that of the total cases reported, 26,402 were classified as criminal, while 15,776 were non-criminal.
Mr. Hamoonga disclosed that under victim disaggregation, 2,561 cases fell under the non-criminal category, affecting 1,631 girls and 930 boys.
“Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of GBV criminal cases, with 7,152, followed by the Copperbelt and Western Province,” said Mr. Hamoonga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
While acknowledging the slight decline, Mr. Hamoonga emphasized the need for continued vigilance and community involvement in combating GBV.
He has urged citizens to remain proactive in reporting cases and supporting efforts to eradicate GBV.
